Bipartisian group of Lawmakers call on ranking members to include the SAFE Act in the Farm Bill.
Dear Chairman Thompson and Ranking Member Scott,
“As the Agriculture Committee works to draft the upcoming Farm Bill, we write to request that you include the Save America’s Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act. The SAFE Act, which has strong bipartisan support, would protect America’s horses from being slaughtered for human consumption.”
“This legislation builds upon existing law prohibiting the slaughter of dogs and cats for human consumption that Congress passed through the 2018 Farm Bill. As with dogs and cats, we believe horse slaughter is a barbaric practice that has no place in this country.”
It’s important to have the Save America’s Forgotten Equines Act included in the Farm Bill. The following link directs you to a status update on the work in progress.
“House Agriculture Committee Members have been engaged in a years-long process of preparing a farm bill that will affect every community in America, from the most geographically remote to the densest metropolitan area.”
“It’s time to get to work and pass a farm bill that moves America forward. House Democrats are ready to listen, negotiate, and work constructively to finish the job. In support of a productive process, we’ve outlined our principles, including reducing hunger and improving equity. Where we stand is very clear. The farm bill matters for people in every county in this country and there is no more time to waste,” said Rep. Shontel Brown, Ranking Member of the General Farm Commodities, Risk Management, and Credit Subcommittee.
